FAQs

Is Therapy Right For Me?

There are many reasons why people come to therapy. Sometimes it is to deal with long-standing problems, such as anxiety or depression. Other times it is in response to unexpected changes in one’s life or to seek advice as they pursue their own personal growth. Working with a therapist can help provide insight, support, and new strategies for all types of life challenges. Therapy is helpful for someone who is willing to take responsibility, create greater self-awareness, and work towards change in their lives.

Does Therapy Really Help?

It can be very helpful. Therapists can provide support and help you develop new skills and enhanced coping strategies for issues such as depression, anxiety, anger, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood issues and grief. Therapists can provide a fresh perspective on a difficult problem and point you in the direction of a solution.  They can also provide insight on your thought patterns and beliefs that may be causing problems and help you to challenge these thoughts.

What About Confidentiality?

In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and psychotherapist. No information is disclosed without prior written permission from the client. However, there are some exceptions required by law to this rule. Exceptions include:

  • Threats of suicide or harming of self
  • Threats of harming another person
  • Any incidence or knowledge of suspected neglect, physical, or sexual abuse of children and/or vulnerable adults
